LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshops that unlock purpose, authenticity, and buy-in for teams that want to make a difference
Why Serious Play Works
In most organizational trainings, the loudest voices dominate, attention spans drift, and PowerPoint decks do more numbing than impacting. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® flips the script - turning everyone into an engaged contributor and unlocking insight you won’t get any other way.
Inclusive
Everyone builds, everyone shares. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® equalizes voices across roles and personalities.Creative
The hands unlock ideas the brain didn’t know it had — and makes solving problems energizing, not exhausting.Focused
Tactile engagement keeps participants present, thinking with intention, and listening deeply.Safe
The bricks hold the tension. Participants project challenges into the model — creating a space where hard conversations become easier.Transformational
Participants leave the training feeling heard — and motivated. They take ownership of ideas because they built them.

What People Are Saying
“The experience with Lego Serious Play was instantly eye-opening and exciting. I learned new things about myself while efficiently team-building in a fun way all within a surprisingly short amount of time!”
— B.K.
“Unlike other corporate trainings I've participated in, Roy's Serious Playground workshop had real impact on group dynamics. Instead of sitting through another dry presentation of endless slides and feeling inundated by information with no real application, Roy guided our group through tactile exercises that were memorable and enjoyable. But more than just engaging, he asked relevant questions that allowed me to examine my personal strengths and how they contribute to the group as a whole. The magic sauce of the workshop was seeing how individual strengths can be integrated with those who think and lead very differently than I do. As a result, our group has a clearer understanding of how to be better and more effective, not in spite of our differences, but because of them. Highly recommend Roy's workshops for organizations of any size and type!”
— M.J.
“Serious Playground with Roy Kim was one of the most insightful workshops I’ve ever experienced. Using Legos made the experience both fun and nonjudgmental, while revealing so much about my own personality and those of my teammates. I was surprised by how such a simple activity could spark deep reflection and meaningful understanding. If you’re looking for a creative and engaging way to strengthen team dynamics, I highly recommend connecting with Roy Kim.”
— P.S.
“You might hear the word ‘Lego’ and ‘play’ and assume the relational and group connections would simply be superficial and fun. The fun part is totally an accurate assumption… but the surprising part is how building legos (with Roy as a guide) can open up opportunities for people to share some very real and even vulnerable things about themselves! I was genuinely surprised. I was in a room of people I already knew…. But I learned new things about each of them. Roy was humorous and light hearted in his welcome, but also really tender and insightful as people shared deeper connections. I highly recommend this experience for any team wanting to grow in team trust, effectiveness and enjoyment!”
— K.W.

About
I’m Roy Kim, a certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator and coach. Serious Playground was born from my belief that people express themselves—and connect with each other—more honestly and creatively when they build, not just talk.
It started when I was a high school counselor. I stumbled upon the power of LEGO® in a surprising way: quiet students began to open up when building with bricks, and technically minded students found access to their creative, emotional side. That early discovery stuck with me.
Later, as a therapist working with adults, couples, and families, I continued using LEGO® to help people express what words couldn’t. I saw problems get solved faster, emotions surfaced more safely, and individuals felt truly seen.
Eventually, I decided to formalize what I had seen work so powerfully—I became certified in LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®. Now I bring this method to teams, schools, and organizations that want more inclusive, engaging, and transformative conversations.
Whether in a 90-minute team session or a full-size team experience, I help people connect differently—through serious play.

FAQs
-
Consultants often come in, analyze the problem, and hand you a strategic plan—usually without much team input. That can work in some cases, but it can also fall flat if the team wasn’t part of the process.
I facilitate a different kind of process—where team members actually build the diagnosis and the solution themselves. Using LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, I help them externalize what’s usually stuck in their heads or under the surface, so the whole team walks away feeling represented, more aligned, and committed to action.
-
No — this is designed for adults in professional, educational, or organizational settings. But the hands-on, strangely familiar experience accesses the right-brain and brings out fresh insights in even the most serious teams.
-
Not at all. In fact, this method works especially well for people who don’t consider themselves creative. Everyone has something to say — the bricks help them say it.
-
It’s a common worry. Most people are skeptical at first — and that’s okay. But once they get building, they’re usually surprised by how quickly they get engaged and how much they get out of it.
-
Both. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® gives equal voice to all participants. It’s structured to help introverts express themselves and gives extroverts a new way to listen and reflect.

Ideally 2–4 weeks in advance for Southern California locations to ensure availability and time for planning — but don’t hesitate to reach out on shorter notice if you’re on a tight timeline. For locations beyond Southern California, I may need a bit more margin for scheduling logistics.
